![]() Wasps and your family home.
The two major wasps found in the Perth region are the European Wasp and the Paper-Nest Wasp. Paper-nest wasp:Commonly nesting on walls or under eaves on the northern or sunny side of buildings, these indigenous wasps form honeycombed mushroom-shaped nests. Although their numbers do not generally exceed around 20, they can become aggressive if provoked. When treating, direct immediate contact with an insecticide is recommended to prevent swarming. European wasp: (pictured)This recently-introduced species can rapidly establish large nests in wall cavities, voids in rock faces, or in trees. Generally not as aggressive as the indigenous wasp, nevertheless they are still a danger to humans due to their large numbers and repeated stinging ability. Expert handling is required in dealing with these pests. |
